- Crochet hook appropriate for your yarn weight (usually around US size G or H)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Pattern: Note: This pattern is worked in rounds.
Round 1: Start with a magic ring (or ch 4 and join to form a ring). Work 12 dc (double crochet) into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch to the first dc. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in the same stitch. 2 dc in each st around. Join with a slip stitch to the first dc. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first dc. (36 sts)
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next st. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first dc. (48 sts)
Round 5: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc in the same stitch. Sc in each st around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc. (48 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch, ch 4, skip the next st, sc in the next st. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.
Round 7: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch, sc in the next ch-4 space, ch 2, sc in the same ch-4 space. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.
Round 8: Ch 1, sc in the same stitch, sc in the next ch-2 space, ch 1, sc in the same ch-2 space. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.
Finishing: Fasten off and weave in any loose ends using a yarn needle.
Assembly: Fold the crocheted circle in half to form a semi-circle, aligning the edges. Using a tapestry needle and a length of yarn, whipstitch the two edges together along the curved edge, leaving the top open.
To make the heart shape, gently press down on the bottom center of the folded semi-circle, pushing the sides outward. This will create the characteristic heart shape.
You can attach a small loop of yarn at the top to use as a hanger, or you can leave it as is to be used as a small basket or decoration.
Feel free to experiment with colors, yarn types, and sizes to create your own unique Danish Heart creations. Enjoy your crocheting project!
