Diamond Granny Square – Free Pattern
Creating a crochet diamond granny square is a wonderful way to add variety to your granny square projects. Here’s a free pattern to crochet a diamond granny square:
Materials Needed:

Pattern:
Center Ring:
- Start with a magic ring or chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
- Chain 3 (counts as the first dc), work 2 dc into the ring. This creates your first cluster of 3 dc.
- Chain 2 to create a corner space.
- Work 3 dc into the ring. This forms the second cluster of 3 dc.
- Chain 2 for another corner space.
- Work 3 dc into the ring for the third cluster.
- Chain 2 for the final corner space.
- Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain-3 to close the round. Fasten off.
First Round of Diamonds:
- Attach your yarn in any corner space with a slip stitch.
- Chain 3 (counts as the first dc), work 2 dc into the same corner space.
- Chain 2 for the corner space.
- Work 3 dc into the same corner space.
- Chain 1 for the side space.

Second Round of Diamonds:

Additional Rounds (Optional):
- Continue adding rounds by repeating step 16 onwards, always working (3 dc, chain 2, 3 dc) in each corner space and (3 dc, chain 1) in each side space. You can make your diamond granny square as large as you’d like by adding more rounds.
